In ihrer Krippe liegt ein Kind

Drei Könige aus dem Morgenland
und Hirten kommen hergerannt
und sind so froh, so froh.
Anbetend fallen sie ins Knie:
gebenedeit seist du, Marie,
gebenedeit, gebenedeit!
Die junge Mutter lächelt schwer:
sie ahnt weiss selber nicht,
woher ein bitter Leid.

Amazed stand donkey and cow:
In its manger, a child
naked in the straw lies. 
Three kings out of the East
and shepherds come racing here
and are so happy, so happy. 
Adoring they fall to their knees: 
Consecrated art thou, Marie!
Venerated, adored!
The young mother smiles heavily: 
She does not suspect her
future of bitter sorrow.
